Good Hello!
After a few posts, I guess it’s a good time to introduce
myself. My name is Shelly, I am 22 years old and grew up in Moore, Oklahoma. I
am a Visual Communications Major at OU. This is my second semester and I am a junior.
I graduated from Oklahoma City Community College in May of 2014, with an Associate’s
in Visual Art. I have known that I wanted to make a career out of Graphic
Design since I was in 10th grade.
The passion I have for design is evident if you ever get me started
talking about it. I won’t bore you with design talk today though!
How about I tell you about the people that shaped me into
the person I am today.
My mother Renea, was a stay at home mom for most of my childhood. My dad Bill, who is a draftsman draws bridges and works hard to provide for our family. I like to think I got part of my artistic talent from him. I can't forget about my brother Jason, he is 10 years older than I am. I have some interesting stories about growing up with him that I just might have to share later. Anyways, I couldn't have asked for better parents. Without them I would not be the person I am today or would I have been as heavily influenced and driven to go to college. I definitely own my college success to them.

Oh! I am forgetting key members of the family!
In this house pets are part of the family. We have 1 dog and 3 cats.
Chloe is our sweet mutt (Japanese Chin, Pug, Chihuahua mix)
Panda, Beau and Dutchess are the 3 felines.

I'm sure I will post photos of the others at a later date...but this photo was too cute not to share.
Back to me. How about random facts? I love chocolate, and there is a 99.9% chance I am always hungry. My favorite colors are hot pink and lime green. Batman is my favorite. Lastly I like to spend weekends relaxing on the couch.
More pictures to come later! -Shelly
Hi Shelley, like you, I love chocolate. For me, it is like a frenemy because it is so good but so bad if want to try to cut down on sweets. It’s a hard habit to break. I also love Batman. He is one of my favorite superheroes, but I’m unsure how to feel about the new movie Batman v Superman because Ben Affleck has a shady past with superheroes. I shutter every time I remember Daredevil. Hopefully, this movie will do the Dark Knight some justice.
ReplyDeleteHi, Shelly! I think it's really great that you're so passionate about design. It's good if you enjoy your work. That's so cool that your dog is part Japanese Chin! My little dog is part Cocker Spaniel, part Japanese Chin, and most people I talk to don't know what that is. I bet Chloe is super cute! Also, I love Batman movies! Which actor was your favorite? I like to watch the 1966 Batman with Adam West because I think it's funny :)
ReplyDeleteI am also worried about Ben Affleck playing batman! I like to forget the whole daredevil thing ever happened! I will be posting a photo of Chloe on my famous last words post if you would like to see it! Picking a favorite batman is tough... if I had to pick....Christine Bale.
ReplyDeleteHey there Shelly! I also graduated from OCCC in 2014, but it was from the nursing program in December. I originally attended OU for my first year of college, but transferred in order to take advantage of the evening program for nursing school that OCCC offered. My son, Mason, loves "nananana Batman" (which is what he likes to call him). And because her big brother loves Batman, so does my daughter Brooklyn. There is always at least one battle in my house everyday where my kiddos are the superheroes, and my husband and I are "the bad guys".
ReplyDeleteHi, Shelly, it’s nice to meet you! I think it is great that you have known what you have wanted to do since high school. I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life until just last semester. I also can’t believe that you and your older brother are ten years apart, my older brother and I are only five years and I feel like that in itself is a huge age gap. I love dogs and cats, and I especially love the picture of your cat in your Christmas tree, we couldn’t keep my cat out of ours at any cost. I hope your semester is awesome!
ReplyDeleteShelly! I think it's so cool that you are majoring in visual communication. I have always been interested in that, and really enjoy learning what little that I have. Batman is also one of my favorites, but I will have to admit that I did not watch any of the movies until this last summer! I hope that you are enjoying your time at OU!
ReplyDeleteHi Shelly, my name is Amber and I also love chocolate and am ALWAYS hungry. In fact, I'm going to have to break from this soon because my tummy is making the rumblies (which if you are a fan of youtube videos you know that only hands can satisfy it - llamas with hats in case you're curious). Alas, chocolate and I are not close friends anymore as weight loss and chocolate don't go hand in hand. Hope to read more of your posts later!
ReplyDeleteOh, how great that you are a VisComm major, Shelly: you get to learn such amazing stuff in that major! As you can guess from my stuff online, I have zero design skills of my own... but I am filled with admiration for web designers! I hope this class will be a good experience for you both in terms of the books we are reading and the images you will encounter. One of the reasons I like teaching this class online is that in addition to sharing stories, people can find and share images to go with the stories. And stories are always better with images! Adults deserve books as colorful and beautiful as children's books... and now, with the power of digital pixels, we can do that online! :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Shelly!! I love your intro. VisComm is an awesome major, I wish I got to do the stuff that you guys get to do in you major. I love that you incorporated your family into your introduction post. And you cat is adorable!! It's also cool that you're making your dream of being in design a reality. Best of luck to you!
ReplyDeleteHi Shelly! I love what you wrote about your parents! It was very touching. I also love chocolate and I am hungry 99.9% of the time as well. Your cat is adorable! Pets are also like family in my house; my mom refers to our dog as my sister! I like Batman, as everyone should, but I am more of a Captain America fan myself. Good luck to you in what I am sure will be a very successful future in graphic design!
ReplyDeleteHi Shelly!Nice to meet you! You have a nice looking family! I'm happy to hear that you are passionate about what you are doing. I, myself have awesome parents who always supported me. Dutchess looks like a fun cat :) I also grew up in Moore so we have something in common!
ReplyDeleteGood luck to you in everything you do!
Hey Shelly,
ReplyDeleteGreat photo of your and your parents! They look so proud of you! It’s also pretty cool your mom got to stay at home; you must have spent a lot of valuable time together over the years as a result. Congrats on finding a career path that you are so passionate about, also! That is something I think everyone should strive for!
Hi Shelly! Your major sounds amazing! It’s great to have a passion for something and turning it into a career. I wish you had a picture of your dog Chloe! She seems like an adorable mix. I have two dogs that are absolutely spoiled. i also completely relate to your love of chocolate and constant hunger. Eating is a hobby for me. It’s nice to learn about you, and I hope to talk more with you in the future!
ReplyDeleteShelly,
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome that you have a passion for design, and especially graphic design. I am so impressed by people who can do that kind of stuff. It is truly a talent. Oh! You should totally incorporate a story of your brother into one of your storytelling’s, if it is applicable of course. That would be so cool! Can’t wait to read more of your work!
Hi Shelly!
ReplyDeletePets run my life too. I have a little corgi, and I love her. At home, I have 2 dogs and 2 cats, but I want a cat of my own too. Maybe someday! I am not artistic at all, but my step brother is a graphic designer. He absolutely loves it too. Also, what girl doesn't LOVE chocolate? They would have to be utterly insane right? I am the youngest of 4 so I can totally relate to the crazy sibling stories. Somehow all of my parents relate back to how awful they were to me. But looking back, I wouldn't trade those memories for anything. Siblings are great!
Hey Shelly!
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome that you have known what you have wanted to do since you were in tenth grade! I always love meeting other animal lovers! I have always owned dogs so I can't imagine not having a dog in my life! I am sure you have some great stories growing up with a sibling that is ten years older then you! I think it is great that you are so close with your family! I am the same way with mine!
Hi Shelly! I am from Moore too! Well, Harrah, but I went to Moore High School. It is awesome that you found something you are so passionate about at such a young age! I am the same way. I am going to dental school to be an orthodontist, and I have wanted to do that since I was 14 or 15. It sounds like you know exactly where you are headed and how to get there and that is great. Good luck this semester!
ReplyDeleteHey Shelly!
ReplyDeleteLove that you love Batman. He's my absolute favorite too. Also, love that you knew what you wanted to do so early in the game. I had my heart set on doing law since the 4th grade when we had an in-class student government and assigned roles. It wasn't till 12th grade that I changed what I wanted to do and then did pre-med once I came to college.
Hey Shelly! What a great introduction, it seems like you are really close with your family and that picture with your parents is just lovely. I am graduated from OCCC with my associates and then transferred to OU in like 2011. Switching schools was definitely a different experience and a change. People were a lot different too. Pretty cool that you have 4 pets in your house! I always wanted a dog and a cat when I was young but my parents would never let me get one. Maybe when I have my own place without roommates someday I can get a dog.
ReplyDeleteHi Shelly! Nice to meet you! You have a interesting major. I would love to learn more about it. Your parents seen nice, and I hope everything works out well for you after graduation. I envy you and your pets! I wish I had one now. It has been too long since I have had a dog or a cat. Your cat is very cute!
ReplyDeleteHi Shelly! I love that you show so much gratitude towards your parents. That says so much about your character. How awesome that you already have an associates degree in a subject you are so passionate about! The picture of your kitty in the tree is super cute. I used to have a cat that looks like that and his name was oreo :)
ReplyDeleteHi Shelly! I took a communication class my junior year and we learned about different ways people communicate in. That is such an interesting major. I would love to learn more about it. The picture with your parents is super cute. Good job for the associates degree! P.S - cute cat!!
ReplyDeleteHello Shelly!
ReplyDeleteMy sister is also 10 years older than me. It sure is an interesting dynamic that I bet you understand well. They are in a different place in their lives than us, but are still part of the same generation. I personal love the gap because I am still close with my sister and she has a lot of insight to share with me that I believe has helped me grow. Plus, I have always been the youngest in pretty much all of my family (relatives) and therefore I get along really well with the older crowd. Everyone has always said I am super mature for my age as I’ve grown up.
I’d be interested to see your opinions on having a sibling 10 years older! :)
Can't wait to dive into your stories.
Hey Shelly! First of all I'd like to congratulate you on your graduation from OCCC, that's so awesome! Having a career in graphic design will be such a cool opportunity, and it's great to be able to work in a field you are passionate about! Your family looks great, and your cat is adorable! Good luck with the rest of this semester!
