Famous Last Words Week 12!

Things are starting to get hectic and out of control, but that can only be expected with finals approaching right? I feel like there is not enough time in one day to accomplish all the things I need to do.  That is why I am hoping to finish this class this week!! I am almost to the points I need! I can do this.

For my design classes it seems every project is due all at once!! Our process book is due the 27th and I haven’t even started. Monday is our final drop for the lightbuld packaging…and I am not sure our bulbs will survive a 10-foot drop. I have projects due for typography on Tuesday. Plus I need to be working on my History of Vis Com project as well.  Typing all that out just makes me what to either take a nap, or have a good cry. Obviously there is no time for that. I totally wish there was time for that whole nap thing; I like naps.

As far as my social life is concerned, I got to have dinner with my boyfriend last night. Which was much needed. We went to Buffalo Wild Wings, and then had a nice shopping trip at the outlet mall! Oh and my dad got a car to replace the one the tornado ate. He got a 2011 Hyundai Sonata.

Anyways I am looking forward to finishing up these projects as soon as possible so I can start summer break! I plan to sleep in at least the first week! Then in June I start teaching Graphic Design at Moore Normans Summer Youth Academy and I am totally excited about that! Its fun to get to teach kids the thing I am most passionate about! This will be my first time teach all four weeks, morning and afternoon! I think it will be worth it though.

Week 10 Famous Last Words

Where do I start? This week started off fast and then flew into overdrive. Monday I had projects due for design classes. Tuesday was the same. WEDNESDAY… woke up, knew there was a chance of severe weather… got home from class and took a nap. Then my boyfriend came over to do laundry and get free dinner. We grilled out. Grilled chicken, rice and a baked potato were what filled my plate.  Had the news on to keep an eye on the weather.  Then they announced a possible tornado on the ground on NE 12th in OKC. It wasn’t in OKC it was NW 12th in Moore and headed right for my neighborhood. My dad started to walk on the porch because we hadn’t determined that they mean Moore yet and as we gathered by the door we could see the debris cloud. My dad then said “Go!” so we would all go to the shelter. I had two of the 3 cats in their crates…but one was still asleep on his perch out of reach. I had to leave him in the house. I’ll include a sad drawing/ diagram of the set up of our house.

To get to the shelter we had to go from the living room, though the kitchen, into the laundry room and lastly into the garage to get in the storm shelter. By the time that happened it was practically on top of us. I was first, then my mom, boyfriend and my dad. I took two steps into the garage and the garage door fell in. I flipped back around and retraced my steps into the laundry room, screaming and paralyzed with fear. My boyfriend then gave me a push to get me to go ahead and get in the shelter. We were in there maybe 3 minutes before it was over and then the sirens went off.

Our house was the luckiest one on the street. I have been astounded by the outpouring support we have received from the community and such. A news 9 truck came that night and stayed on our street and used their lights to help us start cleaning up. Which was amazing because there were houses a street over that had lost their entire roofs. My dad got interviewed by David Payne and has been talking about it ever since. I need to take a moment and give a huge Thank you to my boyfriend because if he hadn’t been here that night I would have been hysterical. He was able to keep me calm by just being there and never moving out of my sight.  His car that was less then a year old was totaled. He wasn’t even upset by it, he was just glad he was here because he would have been a nervous wreck if he wasn’t. He practically cleaned up our entire front yard on his own. I will never be able to thank him enough. By the way…he thought my hysterical scream was the wind. On a final note I think he is a keeper.

Week 9 Famous Last Words: Spring Break

Wow. Where to begin? Its Spring Break so that is a plus! Lets see, up until now school has been hectic! This break was much needed but I am still catching up/doing homework on break…not cool! I keep telling myself…I can do this! After this break is over I know time is going to fly and I am not sure I am ready for that. SO MUCH COURSE WORK!!! I have several projects due for my major. I should actually be doing design homework right now but I keep procrastinating. The struggle is real and I just want to be spending time outside. I have my entire symbol set due when we return to classes on Monday. A symbol set and 3 applications and a presentation! I should probably start on that huh?

(Personal Photo March 2015: Fancy Dinner )
In real life…the Boyfriend planned a nice at home dinner for me. Filet minion served with twice baked potatoes and my favorite wine! Complete with lacrosse on TV, it was the perfect night. OH! I saved a baby bunny and took it to the animal shelter. By saved it I mean my neighbor let his domestic bunnies loose and isn’t caring for them. So of course they had babies and I was able to scoop one up.  Oh I designed an Inaugural Season logo that we are having printed on shirts for the team! I contacted the shop and got pricing set up and sent them the logo and the info. Once I get a photo of the actual shirt I will post that! Tomorrow is Friday, which means Spring Break, is practically over… I plan to spend it with the boyfriend relaxing. Then Sunday is definitely a homework day and back to reality. Which is totally depressing. I have definitely enjoyed not having to get up early!!!

Famous Last Words: Week 2

With Monday being a holiday this week started off slow but quickly flew into overdrive. I spent Monday afternoon at lacrosse practice, watching my boyfriend coach. I would like to forget that while at practice I had a couple spiders crawling on me…NOT COOL. I contemplated screaming at one point because there was a giant one closing in on me, but having 24 high school boys look at you like you are crazy didn’t seem worth it. Then learning that that’s our home field…I’ll be investing in some bug spray for sure. Aside from that the weather was perfect.

Concerning this class, I think my best writing was my storytelling post. I enjoyed telling the story without any dialog. Which was definitely an experiment but a success in my opinion.  I would like to try it again, along with a piece with a lot of dialog. Aside from those two styles I am unsure of others. Any know of where I can find info on this? Maybe a website with examples?

My design classes are what sent this week into overdrive. I had projects due that I was super confused on but in the end I think they came out well. Then I learned of new assignments that we will be working on while still needed to make minor corrections to those projects we turned in. In typography we get the opportunity to design our own font.  I am not even sure how to begin but that’s why it’s a learning opportunity.  Right?  History of Visual Communications is finally getting to an interesting point. Hopefully that only continues.

Even though tomorrow is Monday I am looking forward to the week. Hoping I can get ahead in this class so that I can make the trip to Texas for the teams first lacrosse game in a couple of weeks!

Famous Last Words

Wow! Week one is already over. I have really enjoyed blogging for this class! I think I’ve even decided to continue doing it when this class is over! Getting back into the groove of schoolwork after the long break has been tough. Blogging has been a great way to make it feel a little less like schoolwork.

My design classes we are already starting major projects so I think things are about to get way hectic. I am loving my class on typography, its probably one of my favorite parts of design. Our first assignment was to look at a typeface and redraw it. Which is pretty tough. It has given me a new respect for how long it must take to make an entire typeface and turn it into a font. In Vis Com 2 we are supposed to design a new shape...which is a tough task! There are certain requirements that we have to follow.

Outside of school! I got to see the logo I designed for a new lacrosse team printed on a shirt. Which was very surreal. Their uniforms should be in soon and I cannot wait to see my logo printed on those.

As you can see the logo is glittery because if I am going to be out there supporting the team...I need a little glitter! Can't wait to watch the boyfriend coach and watch some lacrosse. :)

I am also glad I got to spend some time with my two favorite pups this weekend! I am loving this warmer weather. Chloe has loved getting to play ball in the backyard. Spring fever is definitely in full effect. I am thankful for having Monday off for Martin Luther King Day so I can get ahead on some school work. Heres to a great semester!
